Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said travel between Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom would be banned throughout the festive period, as the country grapples with a variant of the virus that scientists said is up to 70% more transmissible.
In a news conference on Saturday, Sturgeon also said Christmas restriction easing would be limited to just December 25.
"We simply cannot risk more of this new strain entering the country if we can possibly avoid it," Sturgeon said.
