Both premiers of Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador announced on Monday the suspension of all non-essential travel from other "Atlantic bubble" provinces amid a rise of COVID-19 cases.

Premier Andrew Furey of Newfoundland and Labrador said as of Wednesday, there will be a requirement of 14-day self-isolation for essential travellers coming into the province, with all travel from outside the Atlantic bubble still prohibited.

Premier Dennis King of Prince Edward Island made the same decision of all non-essential travel suspension for a period of two weeks beginning Tuesday and said authorities will re-evaluate the situation after two weeks to make a decision on whether to extend the travel ban or not.

The Atlantic bubble, which allowed residents of the region's four provinces to travel relatively freely across their borders without quarantining, began in July and this is the first time that a member has backed out.
