Coronavirus outbreak: Saskatchewan declares outbreak at Prince Albert hospital as cases rise | FULL

A coronavirus outbreak has been declared at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) says it involves one patient who had initially been in the hospital for an issue not related to COVID-19, but was later found to be positive.

While there is no evidence of transmission within the facility, the SHA said it was being deemed an outbreak because of the length of time the patient stayed in the hospital without knowing their condition.

This comes as Health Minister Jim Reiter and Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab reported 26 new coronavirus cases in Saskatchewan on Friday, bringing the overall total to 415.

It’s the largest one-day jump in cases in Saskatchewan since 30 new cases were reported on March 27. Ten people are in hospital — six in Saskatoon, three who are in intensive care, and four in the north.

Six people have died due to COVID-19 in the province.
