Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said on Thursday that just over 400 Canadians had been repatriated, including some permanent residents who had links to Canada, from Wuhan, China.

Asked about whether any more Canadians were looking for assistance to evacuate, Champagne says he has not received information there are any other Canadians wanting to return and the government does not currently have plans for additional chartered planes.

Champagne also spoke about Canadians on board two separate cruise ships that had been docked due to coronavirus concerns.

Regarding the Diamond Princess docked off Japan, he said that 12 Canadians had tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus and they were working with Japanese officials to ensure consular services were being provided to all nationals onboard. He also said authorities may allow for some passengers to disembark and be quarantined onshore and Canada was waiting for more information on who may be allowed to leave the ship.

As well, he said there were more than 250 Canadians on board the Westerdam ship that recently docked in Cambodia, saying all necessary assistance would be provided so they could disembark and get to their final destination.
