Coronavirus outbreak: City of Toronto employees to continue to work from home until September | FULL

Mayor John Tory announced Friday that employees at the City of Toronto, as well as “a number of the city’s major downtown employers” and post-secondary institutions would continue to work from home until September amid the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

Tory made the announcement during a Friday update on the city’s response to the pandemic, alongside Toronto’s medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa.

“We want to do whatever we can to minimize any second or third waves of this virus,” Tory said.

De Villa said working from home would be “the new normal for awhile.”

De Villa said Friday that there were 175 new COVID-19 infections in Toronto. To date, she said, 8,086 people have recovered from the virus, an increase of 142 since Thursday.
