Ontario Premier Doug Ford acknowledged Wednesday that he made a mistake in allowing his finance minister to continue a vacation abroad over the holidays as experts warned the incident undermines the government’s messaging on COVID-19 measures that includes highly discouraging non-essential travel.

Rod Phillips is on his way back to Toronto after the premier ordered him to end his vacation.

Ford said Phillips “never told anyone” he was going to St. Barts on Dec. 13, but that it came to light quickly.
