The suspect accused of killing five people inside a Colorado Springs LGBTQ2 nightclub last month before patrons stopped the attack was formally charged on Tuesday with murder, hate crimes and assault.

The suspect appeared in court but did not speak during a hearing, nor did he enter a plea to the 305 charges filed.

El Paso County District Attorney Michael J. Allen spoke more on the charges later in the day, saying they include multiple counts of murder in the first degree and said these charges were "under two different theories, both with intent and deliberation." He said potential murder sentences include life in prison without parole.
