CNN confirmed that Omar Jimenez, one of their reporters, and his film crew were arrested while reporting live on television early Friday morning during violent protests in the city over the death of George Floyd. They have since been released, the news network confirmed.

Officers gave no explanation as they escorted Jimenez to the police station. He had just shown a protester being arrested when about half a dozen police officers in gas masks surrounded him during his live report.

The striking footage of the arrest could add to racial tension in the city and across the country, where protests are taking place over Floyd's death in police custody. Jimenez is Black, while most of the police officers who arrested him appeared to be white.
