Millions of people in the northeastern U.S. are under a flood watch, as a severe storm system dumps torrential rain, triggering flash floods.

Meanwhile, Americans in the southwestern U.S. have been plagued by heat waves, and the dangerously high temperatures aren’t expected to let up in the coming days.

"What concerns me as a scientist is that we're still ramping up the impacts of climate change. And so these intensity and frequency changes are likely to get worse," weather expert Marshall Shepherd of the University of Georgia said.

Global's Jamie Mauracher explains how certain extreme weather events are becoming less rare because of climate change.
