Extinction Rebellion activists blocked streets in London, U.K. on Monday as they gathered in parts of the city, including Trafalgar Square, to call for more action on climate change by world leaders, kicking off two weeks of planned protests over political inaction.
The group caused days of traffic chaos two years ago and is planning a series of protests, including several targeting London's financial district, which they blame for helping to fuel climate change. The activists also blocked traffic in Leicester Square by chaining themselves to a car and a giant pink table that was erected in the middle of the street. Police officers eventually cut their chains and made arrests.
London police had warned on Friday that protests would likely cause disruptions and distract officers from dealing with crime.
