Rape accusations against a pop star has pushed China's #MeToo movement back into the spotlight. In early August, police in Beijing detained Kris Wu, a dual Chinese-Canadian citizen, on suspicion of rape. 30-year-old Wu originally rose to fame as part of the Chinese-Korean boy band EXO. Over the past decade he's gone solo as a singer and model, amassing an online following of millions of fans and endorsement contracts with top luxury brands. He's the most famous man to be detained over such accusations in China.

In Pakistan, activists are expressing outrage over a recent surge in murders of women. The killings have exposed shocking levels of male violence and what some say is a culture of impunity - especially among the rich. The country ranks as the sixth-most dangerous country for women, according to a Thomson Reuters Foundation poll. Women are raped, tortured, and murdered there every day.
