The losses have piled up for people in China’s Qingyuan, a city of about four million people in Guangdong province, which has been swamped by devastating floods.

Since last Thursday, Guangdong has been battered by powerful storms, ushering in an earlier start to the province’s annual flooding season that normally begins in May.

“Everything’s gone. All the seedlings are gone,” said one farmer, Huang Jingrong.

“It’s all flooded, flooded beyond repair,” he told Reuters, estimating his losses at $13,806 USD.

Guangdong province is a key exporter, and one of China’s major commercial hubs. The region has major downpours and strong winds for several days now.
