Top negotiators from the US and China will meet on July 30 and 31 in Shanghai to revive talks on settling trade disputes. It's been confirmed by China's Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Gao Feng in Beijing on Thursday after an earlier announcement from the White House.
"We will hold the 12th round of China-US high-level economic and trade consultations on the basis of equality and mutual respect", said the spokesperson. It will be the first such meeting since presidents Trump and Xi discussed the issue at the G20 summit in Osaka in June.
He also said that Beijing condemns a recent proposal by senator Marco Rubio to deny Huawei rights to defend in US patent courts. "On one hand, the US demands that China increase the protection of intellectual property rights of American companies. On the other hand, it refuses to give Chinese companies the protection they deserve. This is an example of double standards", said Gao.
The US and China have been involved in a trade war, with the Trump administration imposing tariffs on billions of dollars' worth of Chinese goods and Beijing retaliating.
