An unmanned Chinese spacecraft successfully landed on the surface of Mars on Saturday.
China is now the third country to make a touchdown on Mars, after Russia, in 1971, and the US five years later.
The Tianwen-1 spacecraft landed on a site on a vast plain known as Utopia Planitia, “leaving a Chinese footprint on Mars for the first time”, China’s state news agency Xinhua said.
Al Jazeera’s Alexi O'Brien reports.
