Canadian government signs deal to hand over more residential school records

Six years after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission requested them, the federal government has agreed to hand over thousands of residential school records.

The documents will now be transferred to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR). The vast documentary archive may also include the real names of many Indigenous children, which they were not allowed to use in the schools, that families have sought for decades.
