After 36 days of a federal election during the COVID-19 pandemic, Canadians have voted and returned the Liberals, led by Justin Trudeau, back to the House of Commons almost exactly how it left -- with a minority government almost down to the same seat count.

As of 2:30 a.m. ET Tuesday, the Liberals were leading or elected in 158 seats, with the Conservatives at 119, the Bloc Quebecois at 34, the NDP at 25 and the Green Party with two seats. The votes are still being counted, with mail-in ballots yet to have been counted so some seats could still change slightly.

While Trudeau will remain in government, he likely will face questions over calling an election that he originally expected to come out of with a majority. But Trudeau said he would continue to work for all Canadians whether they voted for him or not.
