Green Party Leader Annamie Paul called for Parliament to be recalled for an emergency session to address the crisis in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the capital of Kabul, suggesting such a recall during an election campaign was possible.

Paul made the request on Monday during a press conference in which the Greens were expected to release their 2021 climate plan.

During the briefing, Paul did speak about her climate plan, stressing the Greens wanted to see no new pipeline construction, no fracking, and no oil and gas exploration.

She also briefly responded to questioning over whether the party was able to mount a national campaign due to reports of financial issues and not having a national campaign chair, saying she was focusing a large amount of time in the riding of Toronto Centre in an effort to grow the party's presence but also would touch on national issues from that location. She did however say they could still run a campaign through their volunteers and candidates with the hope they would know their options by the time the campaign is over.

Gov. Gen. Mary Simon dissolved parliament Sunday morning at Trudeau’s request, and voters head to the polls Sept. 20.
