The Fawn Fire, which has destroyed over 5,500 acres of land, has caused evacuation orders to be issued in Northern California on Sept. 23.

In Redding, Calif., firefighters worked through the night to battle the blaze, which officials estimate is only five per cent contained.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a US$15-billion package that will fund programs to tackle drought and climate change in the state after a devastating wildfire season.

California typically experiences its peak fire season in late summer and fall. The state is on pace to see more of its landscape go up in flames this year than last, which was the worst year on record for the state.

The state has experienced many wildfires in 2021 already, notably the Caldor Fire and the Dixie Fire.
