Reconstruction is ongoing at the site of a feeder main break in Calgary, Alta., where crews have removed the damaged portion of a main pipe and are actively inspecting the surrounding area to assess repair needs.

Mayor Jyoti Gondek has highlighted the significance of water conservation, noting a 29 per cent decrease in water usage following the incident.

"So, you can see that you're using much less than what we have in the supply. Please keep this up. The reason that we have to have this extra supply on hand is also for any emergencies that we might face that the Calgary Fire Department has to deal with," Gondek said.

The city has provided a rough estimate of 5-7 days for the completion of the repairs, urging residents to conserve water in the meantime.

Global's Michael King reports.
