Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek said Calgarians have been able to reduce their water consumption by a quarter as the city continues to deal with a shortage due to a broken feeder main.

“Water consumption was down significantly. And I can tell you it's because of all of your efforts,” Gondek said in an afternoon update on Monday.

A boil water order continues for the community of Bowness as Alberta Health Services continues to test the water.

According to Chris Huston with the City of Calgary, the city is now inspecting additional parts of the water main with specialized equipment to determine the next steps.

“We want to know if any of the adjacent pieces of pipe are also damaged in any way, before we start closing this up.”

Huston added, “We're also we're building out the timeline for what this looks like once we get the new pipe in and then we've got to start filling the pipe and get everything back in service.”
