British Prime Minister Liz Truss has delivered a statement from Downing Street following the announcement from Buckingham Palace that the Queen died earlier this afternoon.
“It is a day of great loss, but Queen Elizabeth II leaves a great legacy,” she said, and went on to pay tribute to Britain’s longest serving monarch.
“Britain is the great country it is today thanks to her… She was the very spirit of Great Britain, and that spirit will endure.”
Ms Truss, who was only appointed as Prime Minister by the Queen on Tuesday, confirmed what title the new King will take, King Charles III.
