Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala are fighting both Covid-19 and a bird flu scare. Bird flu, also called avian influenza (H5N1), is a viral disease that can spread from one bird to other birds and animals. After samples of dead birds in Rajasthan confirmed bird flu, some other states have sounded an alert to tackle the spread. Samples of dead migratory water birds found at the Pong Dam Lake in Himachal Pradesh have tested positive for avian influenza or bird flu. National parks and wildlife sanctuaries have also been asked to take precautions.
