It looks like US President Joe Biden has been having some trouble with his memory again.

Mr. Biden spoke to reporters at the White House on Thursday, where he answered questions regarding the withdrawal of American forces. Yet the president seemed to have some trouble remembering just why the US entered the war in the Middle East in the first place.

In 2002, Biden was one of 77 senators who gave President George W. Bush the authority to begin his mobilization into the Middle East via the Patriot Act, so he really should remember the details of this decision.

Biden eventually remembered that the two reasons for the US invasion of Afghanistan were to ‘drag Bin Laden to the gates of Hell’ and ‘eliminate the threat of Al-Qaeda.’

Despite Biden’s belief that America achieved all its goals, the area remains in conflict, with the Taliban reclaiming ground at a rapid pace. Many question whether America achieved anything with its 20-year war in Afghanistan.
