Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett is apologizing for a text message she sent to Independent MP Jody Wilson-Raybould, who is Indigenous.

“Pension?” was all Bennett wrote before attaching a tweet Wilson-Raybould posted in response to the discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves at a former Saskatchewan residential school.

Wilson-Raybould’s tweet targeted Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over his efforts to reconcile Canada’s dark history of culturally assimilating Indigenous children.

Mike Le Couteur explains the link, and how Bennett is responding.
