US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Russia of breaching the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), and threatened that the United States will pull out of the deal if Russia does not return to "full and verifiable compliance" within 60 days. Pompeo was speaking in Brussels on Tuesday.
"Today we must confront Russian cheating on its arms control obligations," said Pompeo, calling US partners to "take common sense action in response to Russia's flagrant disregard for the expressed terms of the INF treaty."
"Its worth noting that Russia's violations didn't happen overnight. Russia has been flight testing the SSC8 cruise missile since the mid-2000s. It's been testing it in excess of ranges that the treaty permits," said he, adding that the missile is "a direct menace to Europe."
