Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Monday subtly ridiculed the U.S. over the Capitol building riot that occurred last week as he discussed concerns over holding the hockey World Championship 2021 in the country with International Ice Hockey Federation president Rene Fasel.

Belarus continues to see mass protests five months after the August election that opponents claimed was rigged.

"In our country, protesters and other disgruntled people do not storm government offices and capitols in Belarus," he said.

The Capitol riot in Washington, D.C. made headlines worldwide when pro-Trump supporters forced their way into the legislative building as lawmakers were inside debating the electoral vote count that eventually ratified Joe Biden's presidential win.
