The federal Conservatives say they believe their 2021 federal election campaign was targeted by foreign governments trying to influence the outcome.

Defeated Conservative incumbent Kenny Chiu said he was singled out by Chinese proxies after he introduced a private members bill that would have created a registry of Canadians working for any foreign power.

But research project DisinfoWatch tracked a coordinated disinformation campaign that falsely claimed the bill would force all Chinese Canadians to register. As David Akin reports, China's government is being accused of spreading disinformation against Tory candidates, due to their hardline stance on Beijing.
