Summer-like temperatures are baking western provinces like Alberta, helping to fuel the ongoing wildfires there, but British Columbia is also melting under the heat and leaving residents trying to stay cool.

A special weather statement is in place and temperatures sit between 10 to 15 C above seasonal norms, with records already being broken.

The hot and dry weather in spring is sparking everything from wildfires and flooding to fears of heat-related illness. Catherine Urquhart explains.
