Kenyan Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge is preparing to break his own world record by running the Vienna Marathon in less than two hours on Sunday. He spoke to the press in the Austrian capital on Thursday.
During the press conference, Kipchoge stressed that running is always a challenge, requiring both mental and physical preparation. "All calculations should be accurate to be happening in your mind, not on the paper. The mental part is playing a big part in running, and it will play a big part on Saturday. And also the physical part - to be physically fit to go to the challenge."
The Kenyan star arrived from his training camp in Kenya to the Austrian capital on Tuesday to start acclimatisation and training at the location. He holds the current marathon world record with a time of 2:01:39 hours.
The Vienna Marathon takes place this Saturday; however, the starting time will reportedly be announced only on Friday afternoon, depending on weather conditions.
