Locals from Grafton commented on Friday's shootings at two mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, and on the main suspect, Brenton Tarrant, who grew up in Grafton, on Sunday.
"The reaction in the local community, as you perhaps can imagine, has been a reaction of shock and disbelief at these tragic events in New Zealand," said Grafton Bishop Dr Murray Harvey.
"The Tarrant family in town is quite well known and very well-respected...it's a real shock. There's no doubt about it," said another local.
Another Grafton resident expressed that he felt partially responsible since Tarrant came from Australia, saying "especially being an Australian bloke that did it makes it, makes you feel like you're a bit responsible for it, you know."
A total of 50 people were killed in the shootings and a further 50 were wounded in what is New Zealand's worst attack.
