Many have called for US President Donald Trump to pardon political prisoners before his time in office ends. Former NSA contractor Edward Snowden says he has never seen such support for a presidential pardon in his favor.

But incoming Congressman Tony Gonzales (R-TX) drew intense backlash on Twitter after he said Snowden and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange should not be pardoned because they are “Russian agents” who pose a direct threat to US national security.
