Los Angeles-based artist Cosimo Cavallaro is building wall along the US-Mexican border using only solid blocks of cheese as bricks in Tecate, California, footage filmed on Friday shows.
Cavallaro described his project as a criticism of the increasing public spending in physical barriers for border security, "when I look into that wall, I don't see the waste. When I look at this wall, I see the waste, and that is the point."
However, Cavallaro's wife Sarah explained that: "The cheese is expired, it's from expired milk. Milk that has gone bad, you know, that would be otherwise wasted… this would go into a landfill or it would be dumped into the ocean. He is taking products, reprocessing them, making bricks that will make an art project."
Like US President Donald Trump, Mr. Cavallaro aims to raise funds for his wall, and looks to use a crowdfunding website and sell shirts with the phrase "Make America Grate again" and bearing an image of a cheese grater.
Earlier this week, the Pentagon announced it had authorized one billion dollars to build part of the wall sought by President Trump along the US-Mexico border.
