Union members and state workers held a day of protest against the government, in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, amid the economic recession afflicting Argentina.
Demonstrators took to the streets to show their opposition to Argentine President Mauricio Macri's administration and his economic measures. Similar protests reportedly took place elsewhere in Argentina.
The unions’ demands include the implementation of a national food emergency scheme, the recovery of salaries and the reinstatement of dismissed state employees, among other measures.
"Argentina is going through a very big economic crisis that mainly affects the lower classes, so we don't have the resources to feed ourselves every day, the kids have to choose if they have breakfast or dinner, if they don't go to a [communal] canteen they don't eat," said Alejandra Taobada, a demonstrator.
Argentina has been experiencing an inflationary wave that has affected the most vulnerable sectors of society.
