After being sworn in as the new Mayor of Toronto on Wednesday, Olivia Chow referred to Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “reluctant partners,” in funding for the city.

Chow, after becoming mayor-elect, said that the city would take the Ford government to court if the province chooses to expropriate municipal lands at Ontario Place to facilitate the redesign of the once popular tourist destination.

While the vast majority of land at Ontario Place is owned by the province, a small sliver is currently owned by the city, forcing the Ford government to either negotiate a land swap with the Toronto City Council or forcibly take over the land using provincial expropriation laws.

Asked about her remarks during the Premier’s meeting in Manitoba on Wednesday, Ford said Chow’s comments were “disappointing.”

“Already, first comments and we’re going to court? Well, anyways, I’ve proved I’ll work with anyone,” Ford said.
