A nationwide test of the federal emergency alert system will be sent to cellphones, televisions and radios across the United States at approximately 2:20 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The test is a coordinated effort between the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission. Wireless phones that are turned on should receive messages in English or Spanish, depending on the language that the device is set to. They will be accompanied by a tone and vibration for people with disabilities. If your phone is on silent, or you are on a phone call, the alarm will still sound.
