Alberta's economy looks to transition to renewable energy

As the future of fossil fuels remains uncertain, Alberta's oil producers say they want to be part of the climate solution, with plans to reach net-zero emissions and transition to renewable energy.

But the promises come despite a big year for oil in the province. Although the oilsands have worked to reduce the amount of emissions produced per barrel after a drop in production in 2020, the sector has produced more oil in 2021 than ever before.

Heather Yourex-West looks at whether the province's long oil-centric economy is ready for what's to come.
