Crowds continued to gather outside Kabul's airport on Saturday as desperate people look for ways to get out of Afghanistan nearly a week after the Taliban took the capital city.
"As you can see Kabul airport is very crowded. Everyone is prepared to get out of here," said Kabul resident Noor Rehman.
Hamdullah, another resident looking to flee the country, said, “The law and order situation is bad and businesses are down in Afghanistan."
A North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) official told Reuters on Saturday about 12,000 foreigners and Afghans working for embassies and international aid groups have been evacuated from Afghanistan since Taliban insurgents entered Kabul.
The Taliban is not taking responsibility for the disorder at Kabul's airport, besieged by thousands wanting to flee the country, and have said Western nations could have had a better evacuation plan.
At least 12 people have been killed in and around the airport since Sunday, NATO and Taliban officials have said, as gun-carrying Taliban around it urged those without travel documents to go home.
