The Panjshir Valley, which resisted Soviet control in the 1980s and Taliban control in the 1990s, had been home to a group that called themselves the "National Resistance Front", which refused to surrender to the Taliban.
The group released a call for a national uprising on Monday and no one knows to where the group's leadership has fled, but the Taliban, meanwhile, remains triumphant.
