As India celebrated republic day, a passenger train was set on fire and another was attacked with stones in Bihar in violent protests by students against a railway jobs exam. A heavy contingent of police failed to control the protesters, who squatted on railway tracks, vandalised property. Government has now suspended the exam and has set up a committee to tackle the grievances of the protesting students. But could this mess have been avoided?
