As security forces in Myanmar intensify their crackdown on anti-coup demonstrations, protesters appear undeterred in their campaign to restore a civilian government.

Since a military junta took power on February 1, more than 50 people have been killed and hundreds detained, including civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The growing death toll and allegations of shoot-to-kill tactics by security forces have drawn condemnation and threats of sanctions from foreign governments, but will international pressure de-escalate tensions?
