A Russian S-300 missile hit a village 20 kilometres north of Zaporizhzhia, destroying a house and injuring a 72-year-old woman on Monday, local officials said.
Mykola, the son of the injured woman, told reporters at the site that together with local people, he found his mother covered by debris immediately after the missile exploded early in the morning. Walking on crutches, he said that once he had made sure his son was unharmed, he went outside to find his mother covered in debris.
"When I went out, I saw that half of the house was gone,” he said.
His neighbour Olha told Reuters she also came to Mykola's house after she had heard him shouting for help.
"She was saved by a table falling down onto her, creating a kind of dome (which blocked the debris). This is why she could breathe," Olha said.
Mykola and his seven-year-old son left the frontline town of Preobrazhenka at the Zaporizhzhia frontline in April and were shortly after joined by his 72-year-old mother. She's now being treated in a hospital, while Mykola and his son found refuge in a neighbouring village.
