Pentagon officials say the release of top-secret military intelligence, posted on social media, poses a serious risk to US security.
Officials say the documents were formatted in a similar fashion to updates given to senior leaders.
It could be the most damaging release of US government information since the 2013 publication of documents by WikiLeaks.
